When you have a rocky area on the beaches and you have to remove the weathered oil on rocks, a pretreatment or soaking using 3 to 1 water to DO-ALL #18 ratio from 30 to 45 minutes is very important to soften the viscous oil deposits. Application can be made easily by spraying the diluted pretreatment solution with a portable fire pump with seawater suction and equipped with a chemical eductor or feed pump. The total pump capacity should be at least 100 to 150 P.P.M. While the dosage is not critical, when a fire hose is used to direct the spray coverage of about 1500 square feet per minute is a reasonable rate. Re-application may be required in severely contaminated areas, or an adjustment may be made to the pretreatment solutions water to dispersant ratio. Using a hydrocarbon-based solvent to soften weathered oil is not recommended. After the 30 to 45 minute soaking period a dilution of 15 parts of water to 1 part DO-ALL #18 should be applied with a high pressure water hose (50 to 100) PSI hose. Experimenting with the pressure and the angle of the hose spray will indicate which combination will give optimum results because the composition of DO-ALL #18 when used as a dispersant, there should be no concern about product run off being introduced into the water column. DO-ALL #18 is absolutely NON-TOXIC.
Since DO-ALL #18 is NON-TOXIC, it can be satisfactorily used to clean animals and water fowl without danger to the health of the animals and birds. Some other applications for DO-ALL #18 include removal of oil residue from docks and pilings, ship docks, and shipsides, including ships made of metal, wood, concrete and plastic.
DO-ALL #18 is a surface-active agent, which can be used to reduce the flammability of surface crude and floating fuel prior to possible ignition, or after the fire is extinguished.
